Ensure Safety and Enjoy Gymnastics

Gymnastics is all about performing a variety of poses that showcase a gymnast’s agility, physical strength, grace, coordination, control, balance and most importantly flexibility. To become flexible a gymnast invests long hours in practice every single day. Gymnastics involves precision. Lack of precision while practicing or performing may cause accidents such as falls and collisions. Accidents can result in serious injury which might make performing a difficult task for the gymnast. Gymnastics is exciting and gives an adrenaline rush to gymnasts.

However, to keep receiving this adrenaline rush gymnasts must always employ adequate safety measures such as mats. A high quality mat not only ensures safety but is also very much durable and lasts a minimum of five years. Thus investing in a good mat is a smart decision since it lasts longer and provides improved safety as well.

Mats are generally made using polyurethane or cross- linked polyethylene foam. Mats made using polyethylene foam are sturdier and provide better protection. Landing mats, beam mats, crash mats, incline mats and  perfect  tumble mats  are the most commonly used mats. The sizes of tumble and landing mats vary and depending on the length and breadth of the floor can be purchased or even specially ordered. Depending on the type of mat its thickness also varies. Landing mats are usually softer and hence are not very thick.

A gymnast’s entire career revolves around physical fitness and thus using mats while training and competing ensures his/ her safety. There is a wide variety of mats available today. Selection of mats should be done based on the kind of exercise or routine being performed.
